Hypophosphite Pathway Map

Reduced phosphorous compounds are produced on a large scale, however metabolism of these compounds is relatively unexplored. Many microorganisms like Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas fluorescens, and Klebsiella aerogenes, are known to oxidize two important reduced phosphorous compounds: phosphite and hypophosphite. White and Metcalf (2002) have shown that, in Pseudomonas stutzeri WM88, hypophosphite oxidation takes place via a phosphite intermediate.
